A qualified specialist comes to your home. They evaluate your energy use, your insulation levels and the efficiency of your heating and cooling system. After which they present you with a list of recommended energy saving improvements designed to lower your utility bills and increase the comfort of your home. Each item on the list includes both a price and available rebates that you can take advantage of.
No cost to you. But indirectly we all pay for it through the Energy Efficiency Charge on our monthly electric and gas bills. Next time your gas or electric bill comes in check it out for yourself. The money is collected in a large pool and given back to us in the form of rebates which homeowners can use for energy efficient upgrades.
- Up to 75% off the cost of insulation and 100% off the cost of air sealing
- Up to $500.00 on electric heating and cooling equipment
- $750.00 on electric heat pump water heaters
- $75.00 on WiFi programmable thermostats
- Up to $1200.00 on natural gas boilers or furnaces
- Up to $600.00 on natural gas water heaters

All major utility companies are required to do this by the General Laws of the state in which they are located.
The energy assessments are good for three years. After three years you are eligible and may be required to have another no-cost energy assessment performed in order to proceed with weatherization.
If you have a no-cost energy assessment done on your home you may qualify for a 0% interest loan up to $25000.00 to be used for eligible energy efficiency upgrades. Monthly loan payments due will be added to your monthly utility bill. The money for the loan can be used for the following upgrades,
- Insulation & air sealing
- Duct sealing & duct insulation
- Replacement windows
- Barriers to weatherization (The removal of knob & tube wiring, mold and asbestos)
- Natural gas heating systems
- Natural gas water heaters
- Central air conditioning systems
- Electric heat pump water heaters
- Electric air source heat pumps
With the potential for a 0% interest loan and up to 75% in rebates there has never been a better time to act.
The energy assessment is performed by either Energy Geeks, RISE Engineering or CleaResults. The actual work is performed by Energy Geeks.
Energy Geeks helps to streamline the application process. After which our own technicians perform the actual work. We specialize in attic and wall insulation, air sealing, duct sealing and replacement windows. If any roadblock to energy efficiency upgrades such as old knob and tube wiring or mold are present we can help with that to.
Anywhere between two to six months depending on the time of year. Winter is the busiest time of year.
The average job cost for insulation and air sealing is approximately $3,500.00 before rebates. Available rebates may bring the actual cost to the homeowner down below $1,000.00. The homeowner balance may be financed through the 0% interest Heat Loan Program for qualifying homeowners.
This is a win for the Utility companies because they avoid having to build new and expensive power plants; it’s a win for the homeowner because they get huge energy upgrades for a fraction of the cost and it is a win for the environment because homes with energy efficient upgrades use less energy and produce fewer carbon emissions.
