What Energy Geeks Can Do For You:
One of the primary jobs of a HERS rater is to help owners and builders reach local and state mandated energy use benchmarks. In Massachusetts a HERS rating number of 55 or less is a requirement in most communities. As of yet, in RI no such energy mandate exists, but it may be just a matter of time.Â
How do we do this?
Our consulting service in energy consumption and usage conservation begins at the design stage and follows the homebuilding process through to the end. Entering inputs taken directly from the building plans into specially designed software we are able to develop a virtual model of your home. We analyze things such as insulation, windows, HVAC, appliances, solar orientation and more. If some of the materials or equipment fall short of the energy use requirements and need improvement we provide the guidance necessary to put your project back on track. When the energy model is complete you receive a Home Energy Rating Certificate showing that your new home will meet or beat the required energy mandates. This certificate should be presented to the building official during the permit application process. Â
