In this video, our tech is performing a duct leakage test at a new home in Westerly Rhode Island. All cities and towns in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut require a duct leakage test with a passing grade before issuing a certificate of occupancy.
Duct Leakage Testing in Rhode Island
In Rhode Island, passing is less than or equal to 8% of the total conditioned floor area. For example, in a 2000-square-foot home, the ductwork can’t exceed a leakage of 160 cubic feet per minute in order to pass the test.
Duct Leakage Testing in Connecticut and Massachusetts
Massachusetts and Connecticut are more restrictive, with their requirements leakage can’t exceed 4% of the total conditioned floor area. You can expect RI to come in line with its neighbors by incrementally lowering the threshold from 8% to 6% or lower in the not-so-distant future.
