The Problem:
A typical Cape Cod style home in Cumberland with an uninsulated kneewall (short wall usually on the scecond floor which may run the entire length of the house) causing the entire second floor to feel cold in the winter and hot in the summer. Behind these kneewalls are unfinished spaces often used for storage.
The Solution:
The first picture shows a poirtion of the kneewall after being insulated with r15 fiberglass insulation and then covered with two inch thick rigid foam board. The foam board insulation is foil faced thus creating a neat bright look when properly installed. The picture at the top right shows this same foam board used to insulate the sloped ceiling of the stairway below (another area that often goes uninsulated and causes tremendous heat loss). Finally the last picture shows the same foam board used to insulate a fabricated door at the bottom of what was a cold bulkhead access.
Big Bonus: Because the owner of this cute cape went through Energy Geeks, they were able to take advantage of HUGE rebates and incentives from their utility company that covered much of the project cost.
The Takeaway:
If you have any of these issues, let one of our friendly technicians come to your home and give you a no cost home assessment. This happy homeowner did, and now he and his family can enjoy increased comfort and energy savings for years to come.
