Home Addition – East Providence, RI

Why Leave The Home You Love

This two bedroom East Providence home is in an established neighborhood. The owner grew up here, works close by and did not want to move. But this home was small and could not accommodate his desire for a gathering place where he could entertain his family and friends. The owner was convinced that all he needed was a good sized family room and he would be set for life. Fortunately, on the left hand side there was plenty of land between the existing home and the existing garage for an addition. Placing it here also provided ideal access from the new family room into the existing kitchen. Here is how we did it.

Front Elevation

We set the addition back six feet to create shadow and interest. Light fixtures and window shutters perfectly matching the existing, help to blend the new and the old. A roof supported by one massive column over the new front entry gives the home a craftsman style look. Finally, a stamped concrete walkway and a matching front stoop along with two light posts were included. Thus creating that sense of arrival when coming home at the end of each day.

Main Floor

Ceramic tile placed just inside the newly located front door and a smartly positioned coat closet form the entry. The existing wall just to the right was removed creating a large open space between the new family room and the existing kitchen. The installation of hardwood floors throughout seamlessly tie the two rooms together. On the back wall, a sliding patio door leading to a beautiful new deck extends this vibrant space to the great outdoors. Finally, cathedral ceilings and a gas fireplace have this happy homeowner saying, โ€œLet the good times rollโ€.

Rear Elevation

Not too shabby.
